The Armenian Nuclear Power Plant consists of two VVER/440 units and started its operation in 1976. European Commission is providing funds and on-site assistance to Armenian NPP with several modernisation projects. In 2009, VF company won a tender administered by European Commission and signed a contract for the upgrade of radiation protection system.
Main goal of this upgrade was establishment of software which will integrate all systems of personal dosimetry including the measuring of personal doses from external irradiation, internal irradiation and measuring of operative doses. The new system supplied by VF allows measuring, recording and evaluation of personal doses in accordance with international recommendation of IAEA. It contains automatic allocation of personal doses, replacement of manual recording of doses, provision of new digital electronic personal dosimeters, improvement of TLD system, establishment of neutron dosimetry and improvement of internal contamination monitoring with new spectrometric system.
Secondly we have provided new instruments for personnel barriers compliant with the recommendations of the European Union. It includes first barrier – entrance and exit to and from potentially contaminated workplaces inside the radiation controlled area, second barrier – boundary line between controlled area and potentially contaminated part of change rooms and third barrier – boundary line between potentially contaminated and clean parts of change room, exit from the controlled area.
The whole project was realized on a turn key basis including the design, manufacturing of hardware and software, supply, installation, commissioning, testing and training of personnel. In 2010 it has been successfully completed.
